TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Despite playing to a scoreless first half, Troy soccer fell to No. 6 Alabama, 3-0, on Thursday night.

Troy (1-3-0) was outshot by Alabama, 27-5, while the Crimson Tide limited the Trojans to just one shot on goal compared to its 10.

Alabama (5-0-0) scored on a penalty in the 48th minute, while its other two goals came on close-range finishes off centering passes.

Alabama took the first shot on goal in the fifth minute, forcing Taylor Richards to make her first save of the evening.

Most of the play in the opening 20 minutes came in Troy's defensive half, as the Crimson Tide earned three corners.

The Trojans' first shot of the night came from Mallorie Springs, who made a nifty touch to create space and fired on net from beyond the 18-yard box. Alabama goalkeeper Madi Munguia dove to her right, doing just enough to keep Springs from her first career goal.

Troy took its first corner of the night in the 36th minute as Brooke Slater swung a ball into the box. Loose for a moment, the Crimson Tide were able to clear the ball out of danger.

The scoreline remained level at halftime.

Alabama opened the scoring in the 48th minute as Larkin Thomason converted from the penalty spot. The penalty was awarded following a video review that concluded Brooke Slater fouled Thomason inside the box.

Shortly after, Troy head coach Jake Wyman challenged a play inside the Alabama penalty area; however, no foul play was ruled.

The Trojans earned their second corner of the night in the 69th minute, a ball that fell to Grace DeShetler inside the 6-yard box. With her back turned toward the target, DeShetler was unable to get the ball toward goal.

The Crimson Tide scored its second goal of the night in the 79th minute as Kennedy Garcia tapped in a centering feed from Soph Martelli.

Martelli added a goal of her own just two minutes later, beating Richards with a low strike.

Troy was unable to create any chances in the final 10 minutes, as Alabama handed Troy its third loss of the season.

"Alabama is a great squad. They're well led and got a result they probably deserved. I thought we did a good job and limited them in the first half. We created three or four half chances throughout the game. We got pinned in at the end of the second half and their pressure bubbled over. We were proud of the team's efforts and how they battled."

Notables

Taylor Richards made seven saves, giving her 16 through the first four games of the season.
Troy's starting XI remained the same for the third consecutive match.
Grace DeShetler, Isabella Hartofelis and Madisyn Marchesi played all 90 minutes, joining goalkeeper Taylor Richards as the only Trojans to play the full match. Marchesi has played every minute this season.
The Trojans' 22-shot deficit was their largest since Sept. 1, 2019, when they were outshot 36-13 by UAB.
Troy is now 0-7-0 all-time against Alabama.
