HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Troy fell 7-4 in Friday night's series opener at Marshall behind a from complete game from Thundering Herd left-hander Bryce Blevins.

The Trojans (20-22, 10-9 SBC) tallied nine hits and one walk against the Marshall (19-21, 10-9 SBC) starter, but were only able to score its first three runs via the solo homer. Jimmy Janicki and Steven Meier went back-to-back in the fourth and Blake Cavill hit one in the eighth. Trailing 7-3 in the ninth, the Trojans added one on an RBI double by Caden Reeves.

Troy starter Benjamin Stubbs lasted 4.1 innings, walking a season-high six Herd hitters without a strikeout. Marshall scored six runs on six hits against the lefty, scoring two in the second, one in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth.

The Trojans' bullpen kept them in the game. Cooper Ellingworth pitched 1.2 innings with one hit and one unearned run, striking out two to no walks. Matt Dill following by keeping Marshall off the board in the seventh and eighth, striking out one with no walks and three hits.

Notables

Jimmy Janicki's homer in the fourth inning was his 13th of the season and third in the last three games. It traveled 396 feet with an exit velocity of 112 MPH.
Janicki extended his hitting streak to eight games. He's hitting .459 with five doubles, five homers and 20 RBIs during that stretch.
Steven Meier's homer in the fourth inning was his seventh of the season. It traveled 423 feet with an exit velocity of 101 MPH.
Blake Cavill's homer in the eighth inning was his fifth of the season. It traveled 380 feet with an exit velocity of 98 MPH.
Cavill extended his reached base streak to 31 games. It's the longest active streak in the Sun Belt.
