NEW ORLEANS - Troy baseball wraps up its road trip on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. game at New Orleans.

The Trojans are coming off a monumental series victory at Texas State over the weekend. The series saw Texas State hit a walk-off homer in the series opener before the Trojans responded with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday to take the series.

Tommy Egan was dominant in game one of the doubleheader, tossing a seven-inning complete game with eight strikeouts in a 15-2 Trojan win while freshman catcher Caden Reeves blasted the first two homers of his career.

In the finale, Troy surged back from down 11-7 to win 12-11 in 11 innings. Hayden Smith and Drew Nelson combined for five hitless innings out of the bullpen, while Josh Pyne, who doubled twice, crushed his third extra-base hit of the game on a towering go-ahead homer in the 11th inning.

On the mound, Troy will trot out freshman right-hander Matt Dill for his fifth start of the season. The Dayton, Tenn., native owns a solid 4.34 ERA through his first 18.2 collegiate innings. The New Orleans will counter with junior lefty Bryson Goff, who has started seven games and owns a 9.90 ERA through 30 innings.

Slammed Marcos
Troy's series victory at Texas State over the weekend was its best weekend at the plate so far this season. The Trojans hit .345 with 39 hits, nine doubles and six home runs across the three-game set, scoring 32 runs.

The Bobcats currently sit eighth nationally in home runs (71) and the Trojans out-homered the red-hot Texas State club 6-5 while Trojan pitchers limited them to a .238 average in the series.

Two-Way Dominance
Senior LHP/UTL Drew Nelson was an all-around star for the Trojans last week. In two appearances on the mound, Nelson pitched five hitless innings, picking up six punchouts with just one walk, while batting .267 with six RBIs at the plate

Nelson made his first start of the season against Florida A&M on Wednesday, pitching three perfect innings with three strikeouts while adding three RBIs as the Troy DH, going 1-for-4. Nelson got the ball in the 10th inning of Troy's rubber match victory at Texas State after starting in left field. He picked up his first win of the season, pitching two hitless innings with three strikeouts and one walk. Also in the series finale, Nelson went 2-for-4 and knocked in two runs.

Productive Pyne
Third baseman Josh Pyne has been one of Troy's hottest hitters, entering midweek action with hits in 20 of his last 21 games, including his last nine. During that stretch, he's hitting .364 with 12 doubles and three homers.

On the season, Pyne's 14 doubles are the third-most in the Sun Belt. His 266 career hits and 72 career doubles are both the most by active players in Division I baseball.

Series History
Troy leads the all-time series with New Orleans 21-9, and is 7-2 against the Privateers on the road. The two teams last met in 2017, with Troy taking a three-game set in New Orleans.
