SAN MARCOS, Texas - Troy third baseman Josh Pyne skied an 11th-inning, solo homer to seal a doubleheader sweep at Texas State, giving the Trojans a series win.
The Trojans (18-18, 8-7 SBC) blasted six homers on the day, run-ruling the Bobcats (24-12, 9-6 SBC) 15-2 in seven innings before surging back from down 11-7 to win 12-7 in the 11-inning finale.
The Trojans had a dominant showing in game one on the back of a seven-inning complete game by Tommy Egan, who fanned eight Bobcats while allowing four hits and two earned. Troy pegged Texas State starter Jesus Tovar for nine runs for the second consecutive season, as freshman catcher Caden Reeves blasted the first two homers of his career in the third and fifth innings.
Reeves' second homer capped off a seven-run fifth inning, as a bases-loaded walk by Drew Nelson and a bases-loaded HBP by Nolan Book scored the first two before Sean Darnell drove in two on a double in the right-center gap.
Troy tallied 13 hits in the opening game, as Book had a three-hit day while Reeves, Blake Cavill, and Jimmy Janicki each had two. Cavill added to Troy's home run tally with a three-run homer in the seventh.
The slugfest of the finale began with both starting pitchers - Brock Tapper for Troy and Sam Hall for Texas State - being knocked out in the first inning. Aaron Piasecki and Jimmy Janicki each homered in the first inning while Jaquae Stewart homered three times for the Bobcats, including a second-inning grand slam to jolt Texas State ahead.
Troy's bullpen kept them in the ballgame, starting with Dylan Alonso, who stranded two inherited runners to get the final two outs of the sixth. Hayden Smith followed with a dominant performance, pitching three perfect innings across the seventh, eighth and ninth, striking out three.
The Trojans' offensive surge began in the seventh when Janicki led off with a single before a Steven Meier walk and Drew Nelson's HBP loaded the bases. Nolan Book drew a walk to bring a run home while Sean Darnell drove in another on a groundout. Troy got within one in the eighth after Pyne doubled and scored on a Janicki single.
Troy finally evened the score in the ninth, as Houston Markham led off with an infield single and reached second on a throwing error by Bobcat third baseman Chase Mora. With Markham in scoring position, Piasecki drove in the winning run on a base hit to centerfield.
Nelson got the ball in extras, moving from left field. He put the Bobcats down 1-2-3 in the tenth, and went back out in the 11th with the lead after Pyne's homer. The lefty punched out the first two before putting the tying run aboard on a walk to Mora. Nelson responded with a groundout against pinch hitter Austin Munguia to seal the win.

"I think the way our bullpen pitched, especially those last five and two-thirds. The offense is obviously going to get the recognition because it's 12 runs, 19 hits. Guys came up with big hits when it mattered, and Drew and Hayden made pitches."
