Women’s Golf Shoots Up Leaderboard Into Fourth Place

GADSDEN, Ala. – Troy shot the fourth-best round of the day and catapulted into second place following Monday's second round of the Chris Bannister Golf Classic at the RTJ Silver Lakes. The Trojans jumped six spots on the leaderboard thanks to big rounds from Constanza Quiroga and Laura Fangmeyer.

Quiroga jumped into a tie for fourth place at 2-over after shooting a 1-over 73 for the second straight round. The Troy freshman was 3-over at the turn after four straight bogeys, but closed her day with birdies on the eighth and ninth to pull within a stroke of par for the round and one shot of the individual leaders.

Troy leads the field with 21 birdies through the first 36 holes, with No. 21 one back in second place with 20. Quiroga and Fangmeyer are tied for fourth with six each individually.

Tennessee is safely in the lead, 22 shots better than Chattanooga. The Mocs are four shots clear of Jax State in third and nine shots better than the Trojans.

Fangmeyer made the biggest move on the day, jumping 24 spots into a tie for 33rd place after shooting 75, with four birdies on her card. Manya Saini and Victoria Stutts carded matching 78s on Monday and are tied for 33rd place along with Fangmeyer at 12-over through 36 holes. Saini's second round featured a pair of birdies, while Stutts dropped in three. Mathilda Ringblom had a birdie on the par-3 second and shot 9-over on the day to move up into 67th place.

Troy improved its score by six strokes from the opening day, when across the field scores actually went up. The opening round average was a 79.26 across the field, while on Tuesday, scores jumped to 80.45.

Troy will play Tuesday's final round along with Longwood and Indiana State, beginning at 9:24 a.m. off the first tee box.
