TROY, Ala. - Maryland rallied with six runs in the final two innings to defeat Troy 7–6 in the series-deciding finale Sunday at Riddle-Pace Field.
The Trojans (6-9) entered the eighth inning with a 4-1 lead, thanks to a gem by senior left-hander Benjamin Stubbs. Stubbs allowed just one run on a solo homer by Maryland (10-5) right fielder Ryan Costello in the sixth, while striking out six hitters to one walk.
Dylan Alonso pitched a clean seventh inning, but a two-run homer by DH Rylen Stockton cut the Troy lead to 4-3 in the eighth. Troy stranded runners on second and third with one out in the bottom of the frame, and Maryland added four more runs in the ninth.
Brock Tapper had stranded the bases loaded in the eighth, but after an error to start the inning, Costello launched his second homer to flip the score 5-4 in favor of Maryland. A double by Stockton ended Tapper's outing, and after the Trojans turned to freshman Jackson Lucas, left fielder Jordan Crosland expanded the Terrapins lead with a two-run homer.
Troy trimmed the lead to one run in the ninth. Zaid Diaz led off with a single, Troy's first hit since the third inning, and Aaron Piasecki crushed his second homer of the series with one out. Righty Ryan Bailey retired the next two hitters to pick up the save.
The Trojans had scored all four of their previous runs in the fourth inning, knocking starter Jake Yeager out of the ballgame. The first three came on a bases-clearing double by shortstop Nolan Book, while Book ended up scoring on a balk by reliever Andrew Koshy.

Quotable - Head Coach Skylar Meade
"Their great players made great moments. They have an outstanding offense. We held it at bay… until we didn't. You look at all of it, I spoke of it yesterday, runs four through nine were all with two outs. Today, all the runs they scored [in the ninth] were with two strikes."
