Women’s Tennis Battles in Loss to North Alabama

FLORENCE, Ala. – In a grueling four-hour match that featured four three-set contests, Troy women's tennis was unable to find a fourth point, falling 4-3 to North Alabama.

In doubles, the pair of Maria Guirguis and Valeriia Guirguis earned their fourth win of the spring season on Court 1, 6-2.

After North Alabama claimed a win on Court 2, Leena Metwally and Alexia Zarate fell in a close tiebreak on Court 3, allowing the Lions to secure the doubles point.

In singles, Troy picked up early points as Guirguis and Zarate won their matches. Zarate earned a straight-sets victory, 6-4, 7-6 (3).

Avdeeva followed later, winning on Court 3 to even the match at 3-3.

It all came down to Court 2, where Metwally battled Emma Ansorge of North Alabama. The first two sets finished 6-4, with Metwally taking the first and Ansorge claiming the second.

In the deciding third set, Metwally jumped out to a 5-3 lead before Ansorge stormed back to win four straight games, giving her and North Alabama the match victory.
