Troy Tops Alcorn State, 7-0

VICKSBURG, Miss. – Troy women's tennis moved one step closer to conference play with a dominant victory over Alcorn State, 7-0.
Maria Guirguis and Valeriia Avdeeva began the day for the Trojans by claiming victory against Hana Bairamovic and Amelia Tatafu, 6-0. Emilia Namyslo and Leena Metwally followed that up by defeating the Alcorn State duo of Katherine Grados and Natalija Nikolic, 6-2. The team of Hiba Heni and Alexia Zarate were leading their match against Oihane Lopez and Zoe Crimmel, 5-2, but the match was abandoned.
In singles play nearly every Trojan defeated their opponent via straight sets. Valeriia Avdeeva opened the day for the Trojans by topping Amelia Tatafu, 6-0 in both sets. Leena Metwally continued the Trojans momentum by conquering Zoe Crimmel, 6-3, 6-1.
Hiba Heni defeated Natalija Nikolic, 6-2 in both sets – this victory secured a 4-0 victory for Troy. From the number one position Maria Guirguis moved to 9-0 on the season by defeating Hana Bairamovic, 6-3 in set one and 6-2 in set two. Veena Nazar was the next Trojan to claim victory, as she defeated Taylor Briffa, 7-6 (7-1), 6-3.
Alexia Zarate assured a 7-0 victory for the Trojans in her victory over Oihane Lopez, 7-5 in both sets.
Troy's road trip will continue against Nicholls on Tuesday, Mar. 17.
