The Trojans (12-16, 4-5 SBC) got a strong 7.1-inning start from right-hander Tommy Egan, while tallying nine hits and drawing a season high 11 walks against the Georgia Southern (9-19, 3-6 SBC) pitching staff. Egan's outing was the deepest he's gone in his career as the senior finished with four hits, four runs - three earned, three walks and eight strikeouts.Â
Troy broke through in the fourth inning, scoring a pair of runs on some small ball. Blake Cavill and Jimmy Janicki each singled to start the inning. Steven Meier got a run home after reaching on a sac bunt with a throwing error by catcher Bennett Edwards, and Drew Nelson capped it off with a sac fly.Â
The Eagles responded with three in the bottom of the inning, capitalizing on an error, an HBP and a walk before Nico Senese and Jack Myers brought the runs home with a pair of singles.
A five-run sixth inning, all with two outs, put the Trojans in the driver's seat. Troy tallied four hits and three walks in the frame as Georgia Southern used three different relief pitchers, including a two-run single by Josh Pyne, an RBI double by Cavill and a two-run double by Janicki.
The Eagles scored two in the bottom of the eighth with a pair of singles and an error against Brock Tapper after a one-out HBP by Egan, but Cooper Ellingworth got Troy out of the inning, allowing just a sac fly before getting an inning-ending flyout.
The Trojans put up four in the top of the ninth before Ellingworth shut the door in the bottom. Sean Darnell hit a three-run homer off the centerfielder's glove, while Aaron Piasecki doubled and scored on a throwing error by Edwards while stealing third.

Head Coach Skylar Meade
"For us to do the things we need to do, we probably needed to still have mistakes and figure out we could win. You're not going to win a game 15-1. Our league is too hard, everyone competes too hard. But that would have not served the purpose. We had to still get punched. That fourth inning made me not happy, and even what we did in the eighth made me more unhappy. But everybody stayed status quo. Everybody handled. And especially in the eighth, Cooper Ellingworth was able to pick us up."
