TROY, Ala. – The Troy softball team fell to Southern Miss 6-3 on Saturday afternoon. The Trojans (21-12, 3-5 SBC) held a 2-1 lead after two innings but couldn't come back after four unanswered runs from the Golden Eagles (25-13, 6-2 SBC).

After a scoreless first inning from Ella Cunningham (6-2), Ivey and Boswell hit back-to-back doubles in the first inning to put the Trojans up 1-0. Southern Miss tied it back up in the second, hitting a sacrifice fly following a triple.
The Trojans swiped the lead back in the second, getting things going with walks from Megan Loftis and Dailynn Motes. McKinnon Howard slapped an infield single to shortstop to make it 2-1. While the Golden Eagles put pressure on in the third, Cunningham was able to work out of it to preserve the lead.
In the fourth inning, Southern Miss loaded the bases on two hit-by-pitches and a walk. Savannah Money entered the game to pitch, and the Golden Eagles took a 3-2 lead. Money worked a scoreless fifth inning to keep it locked at 3-2.
Southern Miss scored two more in the sixth inning, hitting a two-RBI single to widen the lead to 5-2. The Trojans fought back in the bottom half – a Boswell walk and Kiley Huffman single put pressure on, and Rochinski dropped a single into center field to cut the deficit to 5-3.
The Golden Eagles got the run back in the seventh, scoring to make it 6-3. Lydia Kirby crushed a leadoff double into the gap to start the seventh, but the Trojans couldn't get on the board.
Quotable: Head Coach Eric Newell
"It's tough to get in front of the camera when you're disappointed after not only the loss today, but the loss yesterday. It's tough to be 0-2 this weekend at home, where you've played so well. The players are hurt and the coaches are hurt, but at the end of the day, you can't live in your disappointment, and you've got to be determined to get better. The message today was to get a little better."
