Troy Tops Florida A&M 7-4

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - A five-run third inning propelled Troy baseball to a 7-4 win on the road at Florida A&M on Wednesday.
The Trojans (11-14) batted around in the third inning, knocking out FAMU (9-14) starter Karson Lindsey with one out. After Blake Cavill scored on a Nolan Book delayed steal in the second, Troy's crooked number in the third began with Caden Reeves scoring on a failed backpick by FAMU catcher Ethan Miller. Jimmy Janicki knocked in two on a single, Gavin Schrader drove in one on a base knock, and Houston Markham capped off the scoring with a sacrifice fly.
After Troy left the bases loaded in the sixth, Drew Nelson provided an insurance run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly.
On the mound, Troy used six arms and combined for 12 strikeouts and seven walks. Brady Richardson and Brock Tapper went two innings with one run apiece to start things out, while the trio of Zach Crotchfelt, Blake Dean, and Chase Cartron were dominant in the middle innings.
Crotchfelt stuck out three, all looking, in the fifth. Dean, making his first appearance since Feb. 17, struck out two in a scoreless sixth. Chase Cartron fanned a pair in a scoreless seventh, though he exited with two outs in the eighth after allowing two runs on a walk, a double, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly.Â
Cooper Ellingworth finished things out with a four-out save after entering with Troy leading 7-4. He got FAMU forced an inning-ending popup to FAMU leadoff man William Brown in the eighth, before allowing two hits with a pair of strikeouts in a scoreless ninth.

- Troy moves to 39-6 all-time against Florida A&M. The Trojans are 7-0 against the Rattlers under Skylar Meade.
- Brady Richardson made his first career start, pitching two innings with one hit, one run, one walk and one strikeout.
- Blake Dean made his first appearance since Feb. 17, pitching a scoreless sixth inning with two strikeouts.
- Cooper Ellingworth recorded his second save of the season.
- The Troy offense drew eight walks, one shy of its season high.
- Drew Nelson batted in the leadoff spot for the first time in his career, going 2-for-4 with a sac fly. He extended his hitting streak to six games and is batting .435 during that stretch.
- Jimmy Janicki extended his hitting streak to nine games. He's batting .410 during that stretch.Â
- Gavin Schrader went 2-for-5, his third multi-hit game of the season. Schrader also added his first double of the season.
