TROY, Ala. – Troy women's tennis is 2-0 to begin conference play for the first time since 2019, following its 4-0 victory over Georgia State. Dating back to their Mar. 15 victory against Alcorn State, the Trojans went 4-0 on the week while building a four-match win streak.
The day began with Valeriia Avdeeva and Maria Guirguis defeating Georgia State's Maria Paredes and Lamiss Haouas, 6-2. Leena Metwally and Hiba Heni were locked into a battle with
Sveva Bernardi and Sara Radojevic that was abandoned, 5-3. Troy was victorious in the third doubles match via forfeit.
In singles action, Maria Guirguis defeated Maria Paredes in straight sets, 7-6 (5), 7-5. Troy secured victories on courts five and six via forfeits as the matches on courts two through four were abandoned. This theme began on court two when Leena Metwally's match with Sara Radojevic was abandoned heading into the third set, 5-7, 6-2.
Valeriia Avdeeva and Sveva Bernardi's match was also abandoned heading into the third set, 4-6, 6-5. In Alexia Zarate's case, she was leading the third set of her match against Lamiss Haouas, 3-1, when it was abandoned, 3-6, 6-3, 3-1.
For the Trojans, conference play continues next weekend with two more home matches. Troy opens the weekend Saturday against Southern Miss before turning its attention to South Alabama on Sunday.
