Women’s Tennis Rallies Past Texas State, 4-3

TROY, Ala. – Troy women's tennis opened Sun Belt Conference play on Friday, taking down Texas State in a three-and-a-half-hour thriller at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.

After dropping the doubles point to the Bobcats, the Trojans rallied to win four of six singles matches to secure a 4-3 victory, their third straight win.

Leena Metwally set the tone early in singles action, earning her ninth win of the spring with a 6-2, 6-3 victory on Court 3.

Maria Guirguis followed shortly after, keeping her undefeated spring intact with a 6-2, 7-5 win on Court 1.

The Bobcats held a 3-2 lead with two matches remaining, forcing Alexia Zarate and Hiba Heni to win on Courts 5 and 6.

Both dropped their opening sets before Zarate rallied to win the final two, 6-3, 6-4, to even the match.

In a grueling contest that lasted more than two hours, Heni outlasted her opponent, defeating Tadiwa Mauchi, 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-3, to clinch the match for Troy and open the seven-match Sun Belt schedule with a win.

Troy will remain at home this weekend, hosting Georgia State on Sunday at 10 a.m.
