Saini’s Best Round of the Year Leads Troy on Day One of FSU Match Up

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Manya Saini tied her best round of the year, carding a 1-over 73 to lead the Troy women's golf team in Friday's opening round of the Florida State Match Up. The Trojans are in ninth place at the Seminole Legacy Golf Course in the field that features six teams ranked inside the top 55 nationally.

Saini made the turn even after birdies on the 11th and 16th (she started on No. 10) and added her third and final birdie of the opening round on the par-4 seventh. She is tied for 15th place following the opening 18 holes of play. Saini finished 1-under on the day on the par-4s, tied for second best in the field.

Tulsa shot 3-under and holds a three-shot lead over Florida State, while Eastern Michigan (+2), Alabama (+3) and North Florida (+7) round out the top five. Troy shot 19-over on the day as a team, nine shots back of Illinois and Virginia, which are tied for seventh.

Constanza Quiroga shot 2-over on the day, with a birdie on the par-3 13th, and is tied for 24th place after just three bogeys on her card; she was 1-under on the day on the par 3s, the third best in the field. Laura Fangmeyer shot 7-over and is tied for 47th, Evelyn Tankersley had a pair of birdies in her round of 81, while Victoria Stutts birdied twice before the turn, and she is in 68th place.

Troy is scheduled to play Saturday's final round with Illinois and Virginia beginning at 8:35 a.m. from the 10th tee box.
