Troy's Jimmy Janicki Named Sun Belt Player of the Week

TROY, Ala. - Troy's Jimmy Janicki was named the Sun Belt Player of the Week on Tuesday after blasting four home runs in four games last week.
Janicki, ranked No. 18 on Baseball America's 2027 MLB Draft prospect list, put together a dominant week at the plate, hitting .471 with a 1.785 OPS. He went 8-for-17 with nine RBIs, drawing three walks to just one strikeout, while five of his hits went for extra bases.Â
The power surge included a home run in Troy's midweek game at Alabama and three more in the Trojans' series victory over Old Dominion. He hit two homers with a double in the series opener, and crushed another homer in Saturday's win, finishing Troy's opening Sun Belt series with seven RBIs.
On the season, the sophomore catcher ranks second in the Sun Belt with seven home runs, having tapped into his power after hitting two as a freshman last spring. Janicki also leads the Trojans in batting average (.360), OPS (1.144), hits (27) and RBIs (22).
Janicki and the Trojans return to action Tuesday at Alabama State before heading back into Sun Belt play with a three-game series at No. 12 Southern Miss from Friday through Sunday.
