TROY, Ala. - Troy baseball opens its home schedule this weekend at Riddle-Pace Field, welcoming Campbell for a three-game series Friday through Sunday.
The Trojans opened the season on a four-game road swing, winning one-of-three games at Mercer last weekend before falling to No. 3 Mississippi State on Tuesday.
Through the first week of action, Troy shortstop and leadoff man Aaron Piasecki leads the Trojans with a .500 batting average, while also drawing seven walks, which ranks ninth nationally. The Central Michigan transfer has reached base at least twice in all four games to start the season. In total, the Trojan lineup has four players batting .400 or higher, as Piasecki is followed by Drew Nelson (.438), Jimmy Janicki (.417) and Sean Darnell (.400).
On the mound, Troy will trot out the same trio as opening weekend. Righty Tommy Egan struck out six in five innings in the season opener, putting up four zeroes after allowing two runs in the first. Right-hander Noah Thigpen looks to bounce back after lasting just 2.2 innings in the game-two loss last week, as the second-year Trojan had a memorable freshman year with a 3.86 ERA. Lefty Benjamin Stubbs will get the ball in the finale after punching out six in 3.2 innings in last Saturday night's win to close the series at Mercer.
Campbell enters the weekend with a 2-2 record, having dropped its opening series against Cal Poly before knocking off East Carolina at home 2-1 on Tuesday. The Camels are hitting just .217 on the season and have yet to homer, but have held their opponents to four or fewer runs in all but one game thus far.
