Softball Earns Eighth Run-rule Victory with Win over Alabama State

TROY, Ala. – With eight runs in the final two innings, the Troy softball team took down Alabama State 10-1. A three-run, walk-off homer off the bat of Kam Munson gave the Trojans (9-1) a run-rule win over the Hornets (3-9).
Esmee Ames (2-0) put together another strong outing in her second start of the year, striking out seven and only allowing two hits across four innings of work. After entering the season with a career high strikeout mark of three, she has blown by that total in both of her starts in 2026.
Besides Munson – who blasted her first collegiate home run to center field after entering as a pinch-hitter – two Trojans finished the game with three RBIs.
Kiley Huffman went a perfect 3-for-3 from the dish, starting the scoring off in the third with a two-RBI double before slapping an RBI single to left center an inning later. Makaley Boswell went 2-for-3 from the dish, collecting all of her RBIs on a bases-clearing triple to right field.
It was a quiet first few innings, with Ames striking out four in her first three innings of work. The Trojans offense started out quietly, but roared to life in the third inning.
Megan Loftis got it started with an 11-pitch walk and stole second base before Boswell ripped an infield single to short. Huffman's double into the gap scored both runners and gave the Trojans a 2-0 lead.
Ames struck out the side in the fourth inning, but gave up an unearned run to make it 2-1. However, Troy wasted no time in extending the lead.
A Kalee Rochinski single started it off, and pinch-runner Jasmine Lawrence came around to score on a groundout after a stolen base and a sac bunt. With two outs, the Trojans bats caught fire.
Amity White smoked a double to the center field wall, and Loftis punched an infield single to third base before taking her second stolen base of the night. After a Presley Ivey walk, Boswell promptly unloaded the bases with a triple over the right fielder's head to make it 6-1. Huffman brought Boswell home with her single to bring the score to 7-1.
Savannah Money worked a quick one-two-three inning out of the bullpen, and the Troy offense wouldn't get out again. Lydia Kirby took a walk as a pinch-hitter, Sophia Jenkins smoked a double off the left field wall and Munson unloaded on one to center field to end the game.

It was a good night at the Troy Softball Complex. We were a little sluggish at first, but certainly came through there at the end. A three-run bomb was a fun way to walk off the game. We're just teaching this offense to trust the process and put it on the next person. I have to give some credit to Alabama State, they really played us tough early, but kudos to our hitters for trusting the process.
