Women’s Tennis Wins Fourth Straight; Defeats Florida A&M

Tallahassee, Fla. – Troy women's tennis earned its fourth consecutive win Thursday afternoon, defeating Florida A&M, 6-1.
Troy opened the day by securing the doubles point, as the duos of Valeriia Avdeeva and Maria Gurguis, Hiba Heni and Emilia Namyslo, and Leena Metwally and Alexia Zarate all won their respective matches, 6-1.
In singles play, Gurguis earned the second point of the day for the Trojans, winning her match on Court 1, 6-2, 6-0. The win moved Gurguis to 5-0 in dual play this season.
Metwally and Avdeeva followed close behind, surrendering just three and four games, respectively, in straight-set wins on Courts 3 and 2.
Although those victories clinched the match for Troy, the two teams played out the remaining three contests.
Sama Hindawy won on Court 6, 6-3, 6-0 and Alexia Zarate used a second set tiebreaker to claim victory, 6-1, 7-6 (1).
On Court 5, Hiba Heni won the first set 6-2, before retiring in the second tied 4-4.
Troy now faces a quick turnaround, as the Trojans take on No. 24 ranked Florida tomorrow at 11 a.m. CT.
