TROY, Ala. – Four Trojans picked up Preseason All–Sun Belt honors from Perfect Game on Thursday, led by first baseman Blake Cavill, who was named the league's Preseason Player of the Year, while outfielder Steven Meier, catcher Jimmy Janicki, and shortstop Aaron Piasecki also earned spots on the Preseason All-Sun Belt Team.
Cavill was among the most productive hitters in college baseball last season after transferring from Western Kentucky. The first baseman tied a Troy program record with 65 walks, ranking third nationally, while his .513 on-base percentage ranked 13th in the country. A native of Sydney, Australia, Cavill led the Trojans with a .320 batting average and finished third in the Sun Belt with a 1.078 OPS, adding 12 doubles, 11 home runs and 50 RBIs.
Meier returns to the Troy lineup after starting 57 games in his first season in the Cardinal & White following a transfer from Old Dominion. The center fielder slashed .300/.447/.507 with 16 doubles and eight home runs while driving in 42 runs. An on-base machine, Meier set a Troy single-season record with 29 hit-by-pitches and ranked second in the Sun Belt Conference with 24 stolen bases.
Janicki, who Perfect Game also tabbed as their No. 35 overall prospect for the 2027 MLB Draft, enters the season with lofty expectations after a productive freshman year in 2025. The 6'4" right-hander hitter batted .280 for the Trojans while leading the team with a .327 batting average during conference play. The Downers Grove, Ill., product smacked 12 doubles, tying the Troy freshman record, while adding two home runs and 32 RBIs. Janicki looks to have a significant role behind the plate in 2026 after spending his freshman season as Troy's primary third baseman.
Piasecki comes to Troy for his senior season after hitting .318 at the top of Central Michigan's lineup as a junior. The left-handed hitting middle infielder tallied 67 hits, 15 doubles, three triples and three homers for the Chippewas while adding 33 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. Piasecki made headlines over the summer in the Northwoods League, hitting a league-best .406 while drawing 36 walks to just nine strikeouts.
Opening Day is just over two weeks away, as Troy is set to open its 2026 campaign with a three-game series at Mercer February 13-15.
