Women’s Tennis Begins Play in Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The spring tennis season is officially underway for the Troy women's tennis team following their debut match against UNF. While Troy ultimately dropped the match 4-3, several Trojans had strong performances to begin the season.
After dropping the doubles point, the team pushed the match to its final point by taking three singles victories. Valeriia Avdeeva was the first Trojan to claim victory as she defeated Aryana Barlett in straight sets – 6-2 in both sets. Leena Metwally was next as she also claimed a straight set victory – 6-4 in both sets.
Maria Guirguis was the final Trojan to claim victory after a three-set battle with North Florida's Laurie Barendse. Barendse took set one 7-6 leading Guirguis too take sets two and three, 6-3 and 7-5.
Troy looks to build on this performance Sunday morning at they take on Stetson. Action is set to begin at 10 a.m. at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
