Women's Tennis Begins Spring Play in Florida

TROY, Ala. – Following an eventful fall season, the Troy women's tennis team is counting down to their spring debut. Their season is set to open Saturday when they travel to Jacksonville, Florida to battle North Florida at 10 a.m. CT. After wrapping up there, they will travel to DeLand. Florida to do battle with Stetson, also at 10 a.m. CT.
Troy's fall season was highlighted by Valeriia Avdeeva appearing in the ITA Southern Regional's Round of 16. In terms of doubles, the duo of Sama Hindawy and Emilia Namyslo also advanced to the Round of 16 – the duo went 8-4 throughout the fall.
Throughout the fall season, Maria Guirguis led the charge boasting an 8-3 record in singles play. Guirguis is looking to improve on last season where she was named a member of the All-Sun Belt Singles Second Team – she finished last season 22-10.
Another returning contributor for the Trojans is Valeriia Avdeeva. Avdeeva was also names a member of the All-Sun Belt Singles Second Team. She concluded last season with a 24-6 record.
Throughout the spring season Troy will play host for 10 matches. Their first match from the Lunsford Tennis Complex is set for Jan. 30 when the Trojans welcome the Bethel Wildcats at 10 a.m.
Conference play begins Mar. 8 when Troy travels to Atlanta, Georgia to take on Coastal Carolina. The match is set to begin at 10 a.m.
