BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Troy's women's tennis team has concluded play at the Samford Fall Invitational, also marking the end of their first tournament of the 2025-26 season. The Trojans took on the host, Samford Bulldogs in singles play before facing off with the South Alabama Jaguars in singles action.
Doubles play began with the duo of Maria Guirguis and Valeriia Avdeeva taking down Sare Erenda and Lea Erenda, 6-1. Emilia Namyslo and Sama Hindawy also picked up a victory, defeating Laila Fishman and Grace Keller, 7-6.
In singles play, the day began with Maria Guirguis falling to Rio Maeda in three sets. Maeda dropped the first set 7-6, but bounced back to take set two, 6-2. Set three proved to be competitive with Maeda pulling out the 10-8 victory.
Valeriia Avdeeva continued her singles momentum as she took down Manal Ennaciri in two sets, 6-1 followed by 6-2. Veena Nazar was next to touch the court for the Trojans, and she also fell in three sets 6-2,3-6,10-5. Alexis Zarate got the Trojans back in the win column with a three-set victory over Jana Rovira, 2-6, 7-5, 10-2.
Action continued with Emilia Namyslo conquering Cristina Tchanichev in two sets, 6-4, 6-2. Troy wrapped up the tournament with Sama Hindawy taking on Kenza Elakili. Hindawy secured the victory, 6-4 in set one and 6-3 in set two.
"Overall it was a great performance and I'm super proud of the girls -- they showed up, they fought and they gave 100% on the court every day," said head coach Rawia Elsisi.
