TROY, Ala. – Scott Campbell, a proven winner at both the preparatory and high school levels, has been named an assistant coach for Troy men's basketball, head coach Scott Cross announced Thursday.
"We are super excited about the hiring of Coach Campbell," Cross said. "He has a great understanding of the game; he brings great energy and enthusiasm to practice each day; and he gets along great with both players and coaches alike. I have no doubt that Coach Campbell will help make the Troy Trojans better than ever before. He is a great addition and complement to the rest of our awesome staff."
Campbell most recently served as head coach of the PHH Prep Academy girls team in Phoenix, Arizona, during the 2024–25 season. In his lone year at the helm, Campbell led the Fire Frogs to a state championship and was named Arizona CAA State Coach of the Year.
In 2023, Campbell also led the boys team at PHH Prep after previously coaching at Elite Prep Academy in Washington from 2020–22.
The majority of Campbell's coaching career was spent at Puyallup High School, where he led the boys basketball program from 2007–20. His tenure was highlighted by a South Puget Sound League Coach of the Year honor in 2020 and a sixth-place finish in the 2019 Washington 4A State Tournament.
Campbell's résumé also includes three consecutive Oregon 3A State Championships with the Oregon City High School girls team (2001, 2002, 2003), along with a top-10 state finish in Washington with the boys team at Sedro-Woolley High School.
Campbell has led several successful AAU teams, including Overtime Elite's Diamond Doves in 2023. He also coached at the Under Armour Rise Elite Sports Academy in 2022, where his 17U team was crowned champions.
"This is an incredible opportunity to come to Troy and work with Coach Cross and the rest of the staff," Campbell said. "I'm excited for a new challenge and the chance to coach at this level. It's like a dream job. It's really something that has to happen organically, and I believe God opened a door for it to happen. It is a blessing to be able to experience it with my sons."
In addition to his coaching career, Campbell spent more than 20 years as a high school teacher, including 19 in physical education. A former collegiate athlete, Campbell played basketball at Seattle Pacific University from 1990–93.
Campbell and his wife Brie have two sons, Cobi and Cooper, who are both members of the Troy basketball program, and one daughter, Caia.
