TROY, Ala. - Troy right-handed pitcher Jay Dill was selected in the 18th round (No. 530 overall) of the MLB Draft by the Athletics on Monday.
"Jay has made himself into a true pitcher in his two years in Troy," Troy head coach Skylar Meade said. "His elite fastball has been the calling, topping at 98-plus, but he truly improved command and pitchability plenty since August of 2023. The A's got a steal in my opinion, and we can't wait to see him punch tickets in pro ball."
Dill is the third Trojan to hear his name called in the 2025 draft, joining Royals eighth-rounder Brooks Bryan and Cubs 15th-rounder Noah Edders. It's the first time since Brandon Lockridge, Matt Sanders and C.J. Carter were selected in 2018 that Troy has had three players drafted.
The Dayton, Tenn., native struck out 114 hitters in 95 innings across two seasons as a Trojan after transferring from Clemson. He led Troy with three saves as a junior in 2024, and doubled his save total with six in 2025 to rank fifth in the Sun Belt.
This spring, the senior right-hander posted a career-best 3.67 ERA and he struck out 70 hitters in 49 innings to lead the Sun Belt with 12.86 strikeouts per nine innings. Dill's 11 strikeouts across five shutout innings in an 11-inning win at Arkansas State were the most by a Troy reliever this century.
