No. 15 Troy Falls in Game Two at South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. - No. 15 Troy fell 11-7 to South Alabama at Stanky Field on Saturday night, evening the series at 1-1.
South Alabama starter Mitchell Heer held the Trojans in check after allowing two runs in the first inning. Troy took advantage of a Jimmy Janicki two-out walk with back-to-back doubles by Sean Darnell and Steven Meier, but Heer responded by cruising for six straight scoreless frames before Blake Cavill hit a solo home run in the eighth. The righty finished with five hits, three runs, three earned runs, four walks and five strikeouts in 7.1 innings of work.Â
Troy righty Noah Edders pitched 2.2 innings with two hits, three runs, three earned runs, five walks and five strikeouts. South Alabama scored four runs in the third inning, all with two outs after Edders retired the first two hitters. Edders exited the ballgame after a pair of walks and a two-run double by left fielder Rett Johnson. When Grayson Stewart entered the ballgame, the Jaguars took a 4-2 lead with a two-run home run by centerfielder Ethan Melton.Â
The Jaguars jumped on the Troy bullpen, expanding their lead to 11-3 heading into the ninth inning. Stewart allowed five hits, six runs and five earned runs in 2.1 innings of work, while Brock Tapper allowed one earned run in one inning. Chase Nelson pitched a clean 1.1 innings with a career-high two strikeouts before Kelly Crumpton finished out the eighth inning for the Trojans, allowing a solo home run to first baseman Lucas Isamaili.Â
Troy managed to get the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning, batting around and scoring four runs in the frame. The Trojans took advantage of two HBPs and four walks, scoring on two wild pitches, a Janicki sac fly and a Darnell single.
Game three between Troy and South Alabama is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Stanky Field. The Trojans have won each of their first two rubber matches this season.

- Meier hit his 14th double of the season, which leads the team and is tied for fifth in the Sun Belt with Coastal Carolina's Caden Bodine and Georgia State's Michael Maginnis.
- Troy's pitching staff issued nine walks, its second-most this season.Â
- Noah Edders pitched 2.2 innings with two hits, three runs, three earned runs, five walks and five strikeouts. His five walks were tied for the most walks he's issued in a start in his career.Â
