Track & Field Alters Schedule to South Alabama Last Chance Meet

TROY, Ala. – With a change to the schedule, the Troy track & field program remains in-state with the South Alabama Last Chance Meet on Sunday, May 18, at the Jaguar Track.
The Trojans will send nine Trojans in Aaliyah Murphy, Joy Edward, Tydreke Thomas, Evan Brown, Keylan Hicks, Michael Eady, Milos Nisic, Tayjo Oppong-Adjei and Altwayne Bedward to face an all-Sun Belt field (Arkansas State, Louisiana, South Alabama, Southern Miss, ULM). The meet starts at 3:30 p.m. with the shot put events and runs until 5:45 p.m. with the 200m.

Troy claimed 10 All-Sun Belt members, headlined by Thomas on first team and followed by Bedward, Brown, Eady, Hicks, Jasmine Jimenez, Murphy, Kady Schwietz and Haley Wilson on second team and Shanyah Washington on third team. Six of those athletes will compete in Mobile to improve their times for the NCAA East Preliminaries.
Thomas shattered the Troy record books with a 10.14 time in the preliminary round of the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships for the 100m for first place. He kept his momentum into the finals with a 10.13 to claim Troy's lone gold medal of the championships – Eady joined him in the finals after finishing eighth with a fifth-place finish at 10.39. Later, the pair joined Brown and Hicks in the 4x100m for silver at 39.79. Bedward finished the podiums for the men in the shot put throw, setting a new Troy record at 18.87m for second – he also finished ninth in the discus throw at 48.19m.
On the women's side, Murphy excelled in the 400m hurdles and 4x400m with Jimenez, Schwietz and Wilson. First, the freshman ran a 1:01.63 (fourth) in the preliminaries, punching her ticket into the finals and improving to second with a time of 1:00.49.
