TROY, Ala. – The weather is starting to warm up, and with that comes Troy's annual T-Day celebration on Saturday in and around The Vet. The Trojans opened spring practice on March 4, and it will reach its culmination on Saturday at 2 p.m. Admission to all T-Day events, with the exception of Lunch with Legends, is free.
"T-Day is going to look very similar to how we approached it last season," head coach Gerad Parker said. "We want our fans to be able to get a great look at our team and also entertain the crowd – let the fans get a view of who we are as a football team, but also who they are as young men and put on a show a little bit to make everybody smile.
"I'll never feel satisfied, but I feel very encouraged that we've taken the necessary steps that we wanted to take at the beginning of spring," Parker said of his team's. "I feel good about where we are now. We still have to improve and there are places where we have to take steps, but come fall camp, it won't be solving the same problems we had going into the spring."
The jampacked day opens with the annual Lunch with Legends panel in the Stadium Club at 11 a.m., featuring DeWhitt Betterson Sr., Corey Robinson, Richard Shaughnessy and Lawrence Tynes. Tickets (TroyTrojans.com/LunchWithLegends) for the lunch are being sold through the end of Wednesday.
Immediately following Lunch with Legends, the Future Trojans Football Camp takes centerstage on the turf at The Vet, where kids ages 5-12 can participate in a free camp put on by Troy Football. Onsite registration begins at 11:15 at Gate 1 (Tailgate Terrace), and parents can save time by registering online at TroyTrojans.com/YouthFBCamp.
Fans can head up to the West Concourse to snag gear from the yard sale beginning at 1 p.m. ahead of kickoff of T-Day at 2 p.m.
As far as the format for what fans will see on the field, Parker and his staff have broken it down into four different segments.
"You'll see our football team go at it a little bit in the first quarter, and then we'll do some group work, 7-on-7 and competitions in the second quarter," Parker said. "We'll implement the kicking game into the third quarter and then sprinkle in some fun to close it out in the fourth quarter."
The competitions won't be limited to the field and the players, as fans will have opportunities throughout the game to win prizes, including sideline passes for games this upcoming season, a chance to win lifetime season tickets, Stadium Club tickets, Troy adidas gear and more.
"We want to serve our families, serve our fans and make sure we put on a show and show them how different we are and how we look this season," Parker said.
The action isn't contained to The Vet on Saturday, as Troy Softball hosts Georgia Southern at 4 p.m. in game two of their Sun Belt series.
