HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Troy men's tennis team dominated Southern Miss on Saturday morning, picking up a 4-0 win at the Southern Miss Tennis Facility.
Troy (16-7, 2-3 SBC) has now won its last two matches by a 4-0 score and is finding its groove as the conference tournament approaches. The win also marked Troy's seventh match this season holding its opponent scoreless.
The Trojans kicked things off with a 6-2 win in the No. 1 doubles spot thanks to the duo of Nicolas Simkin and Noah Martens. Troy clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win from Henrique de Brito and Luciano Alcocer in the No. 3 spot. The duo is 2-0 this spring when playing together. Troy is 13-1 this season when jumping ahead 1-0.
The third doubles match went unfinished with Troy leading 5-3.
Yeray Andres Pastor opened the scoring in singles, recording an impressive 6-3, 6-1 win in the No. 1 spot. He is now 13-3 on the spring and 4-2 when playing in the topflight position. Martens pushed the Troy lead to three with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3.
Hiiro Sakamoto clinched the match victory with his team-leading 19th win. He won 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 4 position to win his 10th match in a row to move to 19-2 in dual play.
The remaining matches went unfinished.
