TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team is back in action this week, as it travels to Coastal Carolina on Friday and Georgia Southern on Sunday. First serve on Friday is set for 11 a.m., while Sunday's match will get underway at 9 a.m.
Troy (7-7, 2-3 SBC) is coming off a hard-fought 4-3 loss last Saturday against Georgia State. The Trojans are 5-5 on the road this season and are looking to build some momentum as the team heads into the final few weeks of the season.
The Trojans will continue to relay on the person who has been leading the charge all season – Valeriia Avdeeva. The junior from St. Petersburg, Russia, has been nearly unstoppable in singles this season. She has won 11 consecutive matches and has a 12-1 record this spring. Including the fall, Avdeeva is 20-3 this season. She has primarily played out of the No. 4 spot, where she is 10-1.
Also impressing this season has been Maria Guirguis, whose 8-5 record – all at No. 2 – is second-best on the team. She is 6-3 in her last 10 matches.
Avdeeva and Guirguis have also spent the season as doubles partners, where they have recorded an 8-3 record, with all the matches being played in the top flight.
The duo has helped lead Troy to a 37-32 singles record and 18-14 doubles record this dual season.
Coastal Carolina (10-5, 4-1 SBC) is coming off a 4-0 win over ULM in Monroe on Sunday. They have been tough to beat at home this season, where they have gone 6-1. The Chanticleers have won three of its four Sun Belt matches by a score of 4-0.
Georgia Southern (9-6, 1-3 SBC) went 1-1 last week, as it defeated ULM 4-0 and fell to Arkansas State 4-3. The Eagles are 46-30 in singles this spring and are led by the 9-4 record of Amelie Rosadoro.
