Women’s Tennis Travels to Atlanta to Take on Georgia State

TROY, Ala. – Coming off a strong home win last weekend, the Troy women's tennis team returns to action on Saturday morning, as it travels to Atlanta to take on Georgia State. First serve is set for 9 a.m.
Troy (7-6, 2-2 SBC) is coming off a strong 4-2 win over James Madison last Sunday and is looking to string some conference wins together as the calendar gets ready to flip over to the final month of the season.
The Trojans have hit their rhythm in singles, improving their overall record to 34-29 during dual play this spring. Junior Valeriia Avdeeva continues to lead the way with a team-best 11-1 record, with nearly all her matches being played at the No. 4 spot. She has won her last 10 matches after starting the season 1-1. Maria Guirguis is second on the team this spring with seven wins, all coming at No. 2.
In doubles, Troy is 17-12 in dual matches. The duo of Avdeeva and Guirguis is leading the squad with a 7-3 record in the top singles spot. Leena Metwally and Hagar Ramadan-Amin have played strong at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots this spring, posting a 5-3 record. Troy is 6-1 this season when winning the doubles point and taking the early 1-0 lead.
Georgia State (2-10, 1-3 SBC) enters Saturday having lost its last three matches. The Panthers lone conference win came against Southern Miss to open SBC play.
