Women’s Golf Opens Strong at FSU Match-Up

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Troy women's golf team got off to a strong start in Friday's opening round of the Florida State Match-Up, shooting 15-over and ending the day in fourth place in a field that features seven teams ranked in the top 75 nationally.

Victoria Stutts led the charge for Troy, shooting 2-under on the day, including four birdies and an eagle on the par-4 eighth. She is tied for second place and was one of just six golfers in the field to shoot in the red on Friday, while her fours birdies were the fourth most in the field on the day.

No. 7 Florida State shot 2-under as a team and leads No. 56 Illinois by one shot and No. 46 Alabama by 13 shots, with the Trojans four strokes behind the Crimson Tide.

Alyssa Mercado continued her mid-spring resurgence, turning in a top-25 day as she carded a birdie on the par-5 fourth en route to a 4-over day, while Laura Fangmeyer is tied for 33^rd place at 5-over. Katelynn Altese is tied for 53^rd place at 8-over and Mathilda Ringblom is tied for 72^nd place after shooting an 85 on Friday.

Teams tee it up tomorrow for 18 more holes before completing play on Sunday.
