Women’s Golf Wraps Day One at Spring Break Shootout

DADE CITY, Fla. – Troy sits in ninth place following Monday's opening two rounds of the WKU Spring Break Shootout, but the Trojans find themselves within striking distance of a top-three finish at the Lake Jovita Golf Club.
Alyssa Mercado led Troy on Monday, shooting 6-over to sit tied for 21st place, while Victoria Stutts is a shot behind in a tie for 27th place. Mercado carded a single birdie in the opening round before carding three on her second trip through the course when she shot 1-over. Stutts matched her effort with a birdie in the morning and three in the afternoon.
Troy shot 40-over as a team on the opening day, just 12 shots back of New Mexico State for third place. Illinois holds the team lead at 11-over, followed by Florida Gulf Coast at 14-over and New Mexico State at 28-over.
Laura Fangmeyer finished with two birdies on the day and is tied for 36th place at 9-over, Mathilda Ringblom is tied for 39th place at 10-over and Katelynn Altese is in 67th place at 18-over.
Teams wrap play on Tuesday with 18 holes.
