Women’s Tennis Defeats James Madison on Sunday

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team is back in the win column following a strong 4-2 win over James Madison at the Lunsford Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Troy (7-6, 2-2 SBC) rebounded well after a tough loss on Saturday, as it handled its business during doubles play and won three singles matches to end its weekend on a high note.
In doubles, the Trojans kicked things off with a 6-4 win in the No. 3 spot from the duo of Leena Metwally and Gabrielle Leslie. Maria Guirguis and Valeriia Avdeeva followed that with a 6-4 win of their own in the top spot to give Troy the early 1-0 advantage. The Trojans are now 6-1 in matches where they win the opening point.
James Madison (4-10, 2-2 SBC) answered back with a pair of wins in singles at No. 1 and No. 6 to take a 2-1 lead. The Trojans, however, had an answer of their own, as Guirguis evened the score at two with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2. Avdeeva followed with a 7-5, 6-4 win in the No. 4 spot. Avdeeva is now 11-1 in singles this spring and has won her last 10 matches.
Troy clinched the match thanks to a 7-5, 6-4 win from Metally at No. 3. The sophomore is 5-5 on the season and 4-4 in the third spot.
The final singles match at court 5 went unfinished with Veena Nazar leading 4-1 in the third set.
