Women’s Tennis Falls to Mercer, 4-3

MACON, Ga. – The Troy women's tennis team got off to a strong start on Saturday morning but couldn't close things out as it fell to Mercer 4-3 at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
Troy (1-3) came out on fire in doubles play, quickly winning two of the three matches to take an early 1-0 advantage. Leena Metwally and Hagar Ramadan-Amin put together a strong 6-2 win on in the No. 3 spot, before Valeriia Avdeeva and Maria Guirguis secured the first point of the match with a 6-2 win in the top spot to give the Trojans the early advantage. Going into Saturday, Troy was 1-0 this season when winning the doubles point.
The Trojans strong play carried over into singles, as Avdeeva quickly pushed the lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 win in the No. 4 singles spot. Troy got within one point of the match victory as Ramadan-Amin followed with a 6-4, 6-1 win on court 5 to make it 3-0 in favor of Troy.
However, Mercer (1-4) turned it on late, winning the remaining four matches to pull off the comeback victory. The matches in the No. 2, 3 and 6 spots went to three sets, but Troy was unable to find the decisive win to get its first road victory of the year.
