TROY, Ala. – Troy softball looks to build on its 34-22 record last season, and the team's sophomores will play a significant role in that. The Trojans have six sophomores on the roster, five of which were on the 2024 squad.
"Our sophomores are a year older and a year wiser," head coach Eric Newell said. "Oftentimes, having a year under your belt is like taking medicine – you start to figure things out."
Mia Tidmore started in 12 games for the Trojans last season, hitting for a .257 batting average. She finished the year with 87 putouts and a .970 fielding percentage. Tidmore recorded her lone RBI of the season against SEC foe Mississippi State.
Geneva High School graduate Makaley Boswell returns after making 17 appearances for Troy last season. Boswell went a perfect 7-for-7 on stolen base opportunities last season and had five hits in 17 at-bats.
After spending two seasons at Wallace State Community College, speedy outfielder McKinnon Howard transferred to Troy. While she redshirted her second year with the Lions, Howard had a .446 batting average and 38 stolen bases in her freshman season.
Pitcher Savannah Money returns to the Trojans after a freshman season where she threw 36.1 innings, pitching to the tune of a 4.62 ERA. Even as a true freshman, Money spun a few brilliant outings. On April 13 against ULM, the Ashford, Ala., native threw six scoreless innings in a 4-2 win. Money also fired five scoreless innings against South Alabama in late April.
Lefty pitcher Alyssa Faircloth is also back after pitching 54.2 innings in 2024. She had a 7-3 record last season. Against Morehead State on Feb. 24, Faircloth punched out eight batters over five scoreless innings.
Utility player Rebekah Johnson looks to build upon a season where she was 4-for-18 from the plate as a pinch hitter. She knocked in three runs in 2024, drawing two bases-loaded walks.
The Trojan sophomores will start the season with the Trojan Classic on Friday at 2:30 p.m. against Central Michigan.
