TROY, Ala. – After some time away from the courts, the Troy women's tennis team is back in action as it travels to Birmingham on Friday to take on Samford, before going to Huntsville on Saturday to play Alabama A&M. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Troy (3-4) last played Tulane on Feb. 16, falling 4-0. Prior to the loss, the Trojans seemed to be finding their groove, winning back-to-back matches in relatively easy fashion.
The Trojans will need to start fast in order to get back to their victorious ways, as they are 3-1 this season when earning the doubles point and 0-3 when losing it. Troy's top doubles pairing in the young season has been Leena Metwally and Hagar Ramadan-Amin, who have a team-best five wins in the spring. Valeriia Avdeeva and Maria Guirguis have also been impressive, going 4-1 in doubles play.
In singles, Troy has put together an 18-18 record in dual matches. Avdeeva has been then one main constant for the Trojans, as she sits with a team-best 5-1 record. Guirgis (4-3) and Ramadan-Amin (3-2) are the only other Trojans with a winning singles record.
Samford (7-3) are coming off a 4-3 win over Western Kentucky on Wednesday. Three Bulldogs have recorded six singles wins so far this season, with Eleni Liakonis leading the way with a 6-1 record. As a team, Samford has gone 17-8 in doubles matches this dual season.
Alabama A&M (0-4) is still looking for its first team win this season. The Bulldogs have won just one point this spring and lost its other three matches by a 7-0 score.
