Â
LAREDO, Texas – Troy shot a 1-under 283 in the final round of the Border Olympics at the Laredo Country Club; the Trojans' seventh round under-par this season tied for the lowest round on the course on Tuesday.
Â
Jake Springer, Brantley Scott and Lee Poppell bounced back from rocky second rounds to all shoot 1-under on Tuesday; the trio were a combined 24-over par in the second round. Springer and Poppell finished with three birdies on the day, thanks to back-to-back under-par holes near the turn, while Scott had two birdies and just one bogey.
Â
The Trojans jumped a spot into ninth place following their round and finished just nine shots off a top-five finish. Louisiana joined Troy at 1-under for the day to claim the overall team title, while New Mexico State and Houston tied for third.Â
Â
Springer tied for 18th to lead the Trojans for the third straight tournament after he finished 4-over for the week, while Nick Fowlkes tied for 27th place at 7-over following a 73 on Tuesday. Following a rough start with bogeys on three of his first four holes, Fowlkes birdied four straight on the 15th through the 18th to make the turn 1-under.Â
Â
Pablo Gracia carded a couple of birdies on his final trip through the course en route to a 5-over, which pushed him into a tie for 40th place. Poppell and Scott climbed 14 spots into a tie for 44th place following their 1-under on Tuesday; the pair shot identical rounds in all three efforts this week.
Â
The Trojans found a ton of success on the par-3 offerings this week, finishing second in the field with a combined 5-over on the holes, while Troy's 171 pars tied for the third most. On the individual side, Gracia shot 1-under on the par 3s for the week, best in the field, while Springer's 10 birdies tied for the 10th most.
Â
Troy will take a couple of weeks off before heading to LPGA International for the Daytona Beach Intercollegiate on March 3-4.
