TROY, Ala. – The accolades continue to roll in as Taylor McKinney excels throughout the opening weekend to receive her second career Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week nod, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
"Taylor is one of the top players in the Sun Belt and we are excited to see her get off to a great start in week one," head coach Eric Newell said.
McKinney earned her second career player of the week after earning one on April 4, 2023, as a sophomore. The senior utility player also earned the first SBC accolade since Jade Sinness on March 12, 2024.
D1Softball.com's Sun Belt Conference Preseason Player of the Year opened the new season with a 1.700 OPS, going 7-for-15 (.467 clip). She also hammered three homers and two doubles for 18 total bases en route to a .500 on-base percentage and 1.200 slugging percentage.
She opened the season with her first multi-RBI game against Central Michigan, blasting a two-run homer, before following it with another against Tennessee State on a 2-for-3 performance – her third home run came on Sunday against Tennessee State while having a double in both meetings with the Tigers.
No. 8 returns to Troy Softball Complex this weekend with five games for the Cardinal Clash, starting on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 4:30 p.m. against SEMO.
