Women’s Tennis Falters Against North Alabama

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team came up short on Saturday afternoon at the Lunsford Tennis Complex, as it fell to North Alabama 5-2.

Troy (1-2) started strong in doubles with Valeriia Avdeeva and Maria Guirguis picking up a 6-2 win in the No. 1 spot. North Alabama (1-1) responded with a pair of wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 spot to take the early 1-0 lead over the Trojans.

The Lions clinched the match victory by winning the first three singles matches on courts 1, 4 and 3 to make it 4-0. The teams agreed to play out the remaining three singles matches.

North Alabama extended its lead to 5-0 with a win on court six. Troy won the final two matches on courts 5 and 2. Avdeeva won 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) in the No. 5 spot, while Guirguis won 6-7 (9-11), 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) in the No. 2 spot.
