Extra BasketballÂ
Four of Troy's first 10 games this season have gone to overtime. The opening-night win over Kent State needed one extra period, two games have reached double overtime - a win at San Diego State and a loss to West Georgia - and another went to triple overtime in the road loss at USC.Â
Troy's Division I single-season record for overtime games played is six, reached during both the 2010-11 and 2012-13 seasons.Â
Putting Up NumbersÂ
Thomas Dowd is one of just six players across Division I to have averaged at least 15.0 points and 11.0 rebounds to open the season. He is joined by Delrocco Gillespie (Kent State), JT Toppin (Texas Tech), Michael Ajayi (Butler), Trey Kaufman-Renn (Purdue), and Hannas Steinbach (Washington). Dowd has played the most games of the group with ten.Â
Scouting LaGrangeÂ
LaGrange makes the trip to Troy following a home win over Sewanee on Wednesday, 100-81. The Panthers are 4-2 to start the season, and rank 17th across Division III in scoring offense at 90.0 points per game. Devin Dowell leads LaGrange in scoring this season, averaging 17.5 points. Micah McAllister has added 15.0 points per game, primarily coming off the bench for the Panthers.Â
Up Next Â
Troy now enters a week-long break before returning to action on Dec. 14 at UAB. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. on ESPN2.Â
Â
Notables Â
- Scott Cross is in his seventh season at the helm of the Trojans, amassing a 108-92 record during his time at Troy. Over the last four seasons, Troy has won 20-plus games each year including 10-plus Sun Belt contests.Â
- Troy wraps up its two-game homestand on Saturday against LaGrange. The Trojans and the Division III Panthers will face off for the 26th time - and for just the fourth time since 1981.Â
- Thomas Dowd's six double-doubles are tied for third in the country, behind Kent State's Delrocco Gillespie (8) and Michael Ajayi (7). Dowd set career-highs in both points (25) and rebounds (19) in a win over San Diego State on Nov. 18. The 19 rebounds are currently tied for sixth-most in a game this season.Â
- Victor Valdes made a career-high 13 free throws on Monday night. The 13 conversions from the charity stripe tied for second in Troy's Division I history and were just three behind the Troy all-time record of 16 in a game by Marvin Madison in 1983.Â
- Troy will be away from home just one time before Jan. 7. The stretch sees the Trojans play five games at home while making a trip to in-state opponent UAB on Dec. 14. Troy will not play outside of the state of Alabama again until its Jan. 7 game at Arkansas State.Â
- Troy has been excellent at forcing turnovers this season, ranking 42nd nationally and first in the Sun Belt with 15.6 turnovers forced per game. The Trojans also average 9.6 steals per contest, which ranks 33rd in the country.Â
- Troy has faced the difficult challenge of replacing over 60 percent of its scoring from last season. A multitude of Trojans have led the way so far this season, with Victor Valdes pacing the scoring output at 16.8 points per game. Thomas Dowd has added 16.3 points and a Sun Belt leading 11.4 rebounds per contest.Â
