Trojans Set for Coconut Hoops Opener Against Toledo

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Troy men's basketball continues its six-game road trip on Monday, making the trip to Florida for the Coconut Hoops event hosted by Florida Gulf Coast. The Trojans will meet Toledo on Monday at 10 a.m. CT before either taking on Belmont or Saint Francis on Wednesday.
Troy (4-3) is coming off a heartbreaking triple overtime loss at USC on Thursday night. The Trojans led by as much as six in the third overtime period, but with Troy leading by two, Jordan Marsh hit a double-clutch three as time expired to give USC the win.
Cooper Campbell played his best game of the young season, finishing with career highs in both points (32) and rebounds (12). Campbell also delivered the game-tying three at the end of regulation, one of his career-high six made threes.
Troy bested Toledo (3-2) in the two teams' only meeting on Nov. 4, 2024 inside Trojan Arena, 84-74.

Endless Basketball
There have been eight games across Division I this season that have gone to at least two overtimes. Troy has played in a quarter of them, with the triple overtime game at USC being the only contest needing 15 extra minutes to be decided. Troy has played in three of the 37 overtime games this season.
Dowdsational
Thomas Dowd put on a sensational performance on Nov. 18 at San Diego State, finishing the game with 25 points and 19 rebounds. The 19 boards were one off the Troy Division I record set by Fred Spencer in 1996. His 19 rebounds are currently tied for fourth most in a Division I game this season. In addition to the career-high in rebounds, Dowd also set a new high mark in scoring with 25 points.
Scouting Toledo
Toledo has won its past three games, most recently defeating Youngstown State, 92-75. The Rockets rank 54th in the country in three-point percentage, currently hitting from deep at a 38.2 percent clip. Sean Craig leads the team by averaging 15.6 points and 8.6 rebounds. Sonny Wilson and Leroy Blyden Jr. average 15.4 and 14.8 points, respectively.

Depending on the results of Monday's games within the Royal Palm Division, Troy will face either Belmont or Saint Francis on Wednesday. The consolation game will tip off at 10 a.m. CT, while the championship game gets underway at 12:30 p.m. CT.
Notables
- Scott Cross is in his seventh season at the helm of the Trojans, amassing a 107-90 record during his time at Troy. Over the last four seasons, Troy has won 20-plus games each year and finished 23-11 last season.
- Troy will take on Toledo in the first game in the Royal Palm Division of the GEICO Coconut Hoops event on Monday. Troy will then play either Belmont or Saint Francis on Wednesday.
- Troy outrebounded USC 63-39 on Thursday night, including a 25-7 advantage on the offensive boards. The 25 offensive rebounds were Troy's most since Nov. 13, 2011, when the Trojans pulled in 30 in a win over LaGrange.
- Troy earned one of the most impressive wins in its 75-year history last Tuesday night at San Diego State. The Aztecs were just outside the top 25 in the AP Poll this week, making them the No. 26 ranked team in the country. The win was Troy's highest-ranked win in the KenPom era, dating back to 1997. At tip-off, SDSU was ranked No. 29 by the site.
- Toledo is the second opponent the Trojans have faced from the MAC this season. Troy took down Kent State in overtime in the opening game of the season. As part of the MAC-SBC Challenge, Troy will play one more game against a MAC foe on Feb. 7 at Trojan Arena. That opponent is TBD.
- Troy has faced the difficult challenge of replacing just over 60 percent of its scoring from last season. A multitude of Trojans have led the way so far this season, Cooper Campbell and Victor Valdes averaging 18.1 and 17.1 points, respectively. Thomas has added 11.1 rebounds per game in addition to his 16.4 points.
