TROY, Ala. – Troy junior punter Evan Crenshaw has been named one of 10 semifinalists for the Ray Guy Award, presented annually to the nation's top punter.Â
Â
Crenshaw entered the week ranked third nationally, averaging 48.3 yards per punt and first with a 45.82 net punting average. The Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., native has 17 punts of 50-plus yards this season, the next closest semifinalist has nine, and the other nine semifinalists combined are averaging just 6.2 50-yard punts on the season.Â
Â
He has just two touchbacks on the season, 18 of his 39 punts have been downed inside the 20-yard line and opponents have mustered just 58 yards on 13 returns (4.5 yards per return). Crenshaw's 18 punts inside the 20-yard line rank second most amongst the finalists, with the leader having 10 more attempts and a punting average of nearly seven yards shy of Crenshaw.
Â
A national voting body of Football Bowl Subdivision sports information directors, media representatives and previous Ray Guy Award winners will decide the three award finalists. Voting for the finalists opens Nov. 15 and closes Nov. 23. The three award finalists will be announced on Tuesday, November 25. After the finalists are named, the voting body will cast ballots again to determine the Ray Guy Award winner. The winner will be announced live on Friday, Dec. 12, during The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.
