Volleyball Wraps Up Regular Season at App State

TROY, Ala. – Troy volleyball closes out its 2025 regular season this Friday and Saturday, taking on App State in Boone, N.C. Friday night's match begins at 5 p.m. CT, while Saturday afternoon's game is set for 1 p.m. CT.
Last weekend, Troy wrapped up itshome schedule with two wins over Southern Miss. In matches Troy had to win, they received impressive performances from multiple Trojans. In the final two home contests of her career, Amiah Butler showed why she is one of the Sun Belt's best players, putting down 57 kills over the two matches. Butler hit .375 on Saturday, and contributed a career-high 32 kills. With the pair of wins, Troy earned a spot in next week's Sun Belt Tournament in Foley, Ala.
App State enters the final week of the season after splitting two matches with Marshall last weekend. After earning a sweep on Thursday, App State fell in four sets on Friday.

A Weekend to Remember
With Troy celebrating its seniors in the final home matches of 2025, Troy needed to win both matches against Southern Miss on Nov. 7-8 to earn a spot in the Sun Belt Tournament. The Trojans did just that, winning two five-set thrillers to punch their ticket to Foley, Ala. for next's tournament (Nov. 20 -23).
Amiah Butler displayed one of the best weekend performances in Troy volleyball history, racking up 57 kills across the 10 sets. On Saturday, Butler set a career-high with 32 kills on an incredible .375 hitting percentage. The 32 kills were not only a career best for Butler, but also the fourth-most ever by a Trojan in a single match. Notably, none of the three performances above hers came with as high of a hitting percentage as Butler's .375 mark on Saturday.
What an Honor
Not one, but two Trojans received honors from the Sun Belt for their performances on Nov. 7-8 against Southern Miss. Amiah Butler took home Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in her career, and first this season. Butler led the conference in kills (57) and kills per set (5.70). Freshman Madison Marx earned the first Sun Belt honor of her career, winning Sun Belt Setter of the Week. Marx finished the weekend with 58 assists, while putting up her second and third consecutive double doubles. Marx has tallied a double-double in six of Troy's last nine matches.
Scouting App State
22nd meeting: Troy leads, 11-10
App State is 14-11 overall and 5-9 in the Sun Belt this season. Three Mountaineers have put together 200-plus kill seasons thus far, with Maya Winterhoff leading the way at 290. Addison Heidermann has assumed the primary setting duties, assisting on 860 kills this season. As a team, the Mountaineers are hitting at a .221 clip this season, good for fifth in the Sun Belt.
Notables
- Two Trojans received recognition from the Sun Belt following their performances against Southern Miss. Amiah Butler was named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week, while Madison Marx took home Sun Belt Setter of the Week. The two awards marked the first weekly honors for Troy this season.
- Troy ranks first in the Sun Belt and 40th overall in aces per set this season with 1.76. It has been a collective effort behind the service line for the Trojans, with four individuals currently at 20 or more aces this season. Sara Bates and Sydney Austin lead the team with 27, while Madison Marx and Kalina Calvillo have 23 and 22 aces, respectively.
- The Trojans are riding their first three game winning streak of the season following Saturday's win over Southern Miss. It is the longest winning streak since Troy won four in a row from Oct. 31 - Nov. 8 of last season.
- Head Coach Josh Lauer is in his ninth season at the helm, holding a career record of 128-127. He is the second-longest tenured Division I head coach in Troy program history, trailing only Sonny Kirkpatrick, who guided the Trojans for 11 seasons (2006-16)
