Troy Bested by Arkansas State in Four Sets

TROY, Ala. – Troy volleyball fell to Arkansas State inside Trojan Arena Friday night, 3-1 (25-17, 13-25, 17-25, 18-25).
Troy (5-13, 3-7 SBC) never found its footing offensively, swinging at a .097 clip for the match. Kalina Calvillo was the only Trojan to tally double-digit kills (13), while Amiah Butler's streak of matches with 10+ kills ended at 17. Butler ended the night with eight kills.
Arkansas State (14-7, 7-3) hit at a .277 percentage, but it was the defensive effort that was the story for the Red Wolves. As a team, they denied 14 Trojan attacks, with Haley Glunz recording nine block assists, and three others – Daedrianna Cail, Kaitlin Whitlock, and Addison Collum - adding five each.
Set 1 – TROY 25, Arkansas St. 17
Troy won the opening set for the second straight night. The Trojans trailed early, with Arkansas State winning the first five points of the match. However, Troy rallied to win five of the next seven points and eventually tied the match at 12 before taking the lead and not giving it up. Ella Broadhead swung at a .500 clip with three kills in the frame.
Set 2 – Arkansas St. 25, TROY 13
Similar to Thursday night's match, Arkansas State bounced back in the second, winning the set in dominant fashion. Addison Collum racked up four kills on five swings, while as a team, Arkansas State hit .414 in the set.
Set 3 – Arkansas St. 25, TROY 17
Arkansas State took control of the third set as well early on, holding an 7-3 lead and forcing an early Troy timeout. The Red Wolves maintained that lead to take the two sets to one lead. Kaitlin Whitlock recorded three aces, while Erin Madigan racked up three blocks.
Set 4 – Arkansas St. 25, TROY 18
The fourth set was a tight one early, with Arkansas State holding a narrow lead throughout the first 10 points. However, it was then that the Red Wolves started to pull away, using a scoring run to build a 15-9 lead. A Devyn Lewis kill sealed the win for Arkansas State, three sets to one.

"It wasn't our night tonight. We really struggled to find some consistency and momentum. Kudos to Arkansas State; they put some pressure on us, and we had a tough time getting going after that first set. It was a good team out there tonight, but we'll take a weekend split and get ready for next week."
