TROY, Ala. – For the first time this season, three Troy players recorded double-doubles as the Trojans knocked off Arkansas State, 3-1 (25-23, 12-25, 26-24, 25-12).
Amiah Butler tallied 18 kills and 10 digs for Troy (5-12, 3-6 SBC), while setters Jordan Sinness and Madison Marx both finished with 11 digs and 23 and 22 assists, respectively.
Kalina Calvillo fueled the service game for the Trojans, who ended the match with 10 aces. Calvillo provided timely service runs and ended both the third and fourth sets with an ace.
Devyn Lewis led Arkansas State (13-7, 6-3 SBC) with 12 kills and 12 digs, while Daedrianna Cail recorded seven blocks for the Red Wolves.
Set 1 – TROY 25, Arkansas St. 23
Troy came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, hitting a blistering .447 with just three errors in the first set. Despite the impressive numbers, Arkansas State kept it close, with 13 ties and five lead changes. Butler hit an individual .545 clip and recorded six kills in the frame. A Calvillo kill sealed the set to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.
Set 2 – Arkansas St. 25, TROY 13
The second set was not as kind to Troy, as the Trojans' seven kills were offset by seven errors, resulting in a .000 hitting percentage. Arkansas State, meanwhile, hit .294 and took control from the jump, with the lead ballooning to 23-6 late in the frame. Cail hit .750 on four swings and added two blocks for the Red Wolves.
Set 3 – TROY 25, Arkansas St. 24
The third set was tightly contested, with neither team leading by more than two points through the first 20 rallies. Troy eventually built a 15-11 advantage at the media timeout, but Arkansas State battled back to tie it at 18. Tied at 24-all, Calvillo delivered back-to-back points - a kill followed by an ace - to give the Trojans the 2-1 match lead.
Set 4 – TROY 25, Arkansas St. 12
The fourth set was all Troy, as the Trojans dropped the first point before using an 8-0 run to seize control. Sinness assisted on seven kills in the frame, while Olivia Kwiatkowski added two solo blocks. Once again, it was a Calvillo ace that ended the set, and the match, for the Trojans.
Quotable – Head Coach Josh Lauer
"I thought serving was the difference tonight. We served really tough and were great down the stretch. There were some unsung heroes tonight, including Jaci Mesa, who played really solid tonight, and because she played so solid, Arkansas State stayed away from her. I was a little emotional after the game, that was a really hard-fought victory for our team, and we really needed that one."
