LAFAYETTE, La. – Troy volleyball was unable to thwart the attack from Louisiana on Friday night, falling to the Ragin' Cajuns in straight sets (20-25, 20-25, 21-25).
Troy (4-12, 2-6 SBC) was led offensively by Amiah Butler, whose 10 kills extended her streak of double-digit kill matches to 16. However, 10 attack errors limited her efficiency, as she finished with a .000 hitting percentage.
Louisiana (11-7, 3-5 SBC) featured a balanced attack similar to Thursday night's match, with two Ragin' Cajuns – Grace Sweeney and Marlee Ervin – finishing the match with 10 kills.
Set 1 – Louisiana 25, TROY 20
Troy jumped out to an early 4-1 lead, but four straight points from Louisiana followed. The Ragin' Cajuns led by as much as five on two occasions, which was the differential at the end of the set, 25-20.
Set 2 – Louisiana 25, TROY 20
The second set featured eight ties and three lead changes, with the Trojans leading 13-9 midway through. Once again, Louisiana used a run of its own to take control and closed out another five-point win.
Set 3 – Louisiana 25, TROY 21
The third set was the closest of the night, with 13 ties and 10 lead changes. After dropping five of the first seven points, Troy clawed back to even the score at six. The Trojans led late, 20-18, but timely kills from Sweeney and Lindsey Henry secured the win for the Ragin' Cajuns.
Quotable – Head Coach Josh Lauer
"Tough competitive match tonight with great effort on both sides of the net. Louisiana executed better than us tonight offensively, and that was the difference in the match. Definitely looking forward to being back in Trojan Arena this weekend and celebrating our volleyball alumni."
