Women’s Tennis Defeats Florida A&M, 6-1

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team recorded its first victory of the spring season on Tuesday afternoon, taking down Florida A&M 6-1 at the Lunsford Tennis Complex in its home opener.
Troy (1-1) started the match with an automatic 1-0 due to Florida A&M (0-2) only having five players, forcing it to forfeit the No. 6 singles match. The win was recorded to Emilia Namyslo.
In doubles, the Trojans only had to win one of the three matches as the Rattlers also had to forfeit the No. 3 doubles match. Leena Metwally and Hagar Ramadan-Amin won 6-1 in the No. 2 spot to give Troy the doubles point and a 2-0 match lead. The remaining doubles match was played out, with Maria Guirguis and Valeriia Avdeeva winning 6-1.
In singles, Ramadan-Amin expanded the Troy lead to three with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court five. Avdeeva clinched the match victory for Troy on court 4 with a 6-4, 6-3 lead. Both teams agreed to play out the remaining three singles courts.
Freshman Veena Nazar recorded the first win of her collegiate career with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 win on court three. Florida A&M got its lone point of the match in the No. 1 spot as Sara Rakim defeated Gabrielle Leslie 6-2, 7-5. Guirguis closed out the match for Troy with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 win on court 2.
The Trojans are back in action on Saturday afternoon as it takes on North Alabama. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m.
