Men’s Basketball Welcomes In-State Rival South Alabama

TROY, Ala. – Following an intense game in Mobile last week, the Troy men's basketball team welcomes rival South Alabama to Trojan Arena on Saturday for a vital conference matchup, with tipoff set for 5 p.m.
Troy (11-7, 4-3 SBC) is looking to get even with South Alabama (14-5, 6-1 SBC) after nearly pulling off a remarkable second-half comeback on the road last Saturday. The Trojans fell 64-63 after the Jaguars buried a pair of free-throws with less than two seconds left in the game. Both teams games on Thursday were postponed to this coming Monday due to hazardous road conditions caused by Winter Storm Enzo.

The Trojans continue to get strong play from senior guard Tayton Conerway who is averaging a team-best 12.7 points per game. He scored a game-high 23 points against South Alabama last Saturday and his 18.4 points per game during conference play is third in the Sun Belt.
Troy fell behind big in the first half against South Alabama last week, trailing by 20 at halftime. In the second 20 minutes, the Trojans outscored the Jaguars by 19 but couldn't quite finish the deal in the dwindling moments of the game.
Troy, who has been better on the road than at home in conference play, looks to flip its fortune this week. Last season Troy went 8-1 at home during Sun Belt play, which included an 83-79 win over South Alabama. In that game, Myles Rigsby had 21 points for Troy while the Trojans shot 45.3 percent from the field and limited the Jaguars to 43.5 percent.
Defense has been area of strength this season for Troy, as its holding its opponents to 41.3 percent shooting – the fourth-best mark in the conference and 77th in the country. Troy is also forcing the second-most turnovers in the conference at 14.0 per game.
Conerway continues to lead the conference and rank top 5 nationally in steals (57) and steals per game (3.2). He had a game-high four last Saturday.

Myles Corey continues to lead the Jaguars in scoring with 15.4 points per game. South Alabama leads the conference and is seventh nationally in assist/turnover ratio at 1.73 and leads the SBC in assists per game with 16.1.
Troy will need to limit its turnovers against South Alabama, who averages 14.8 turnovers forced per game to lead the Sun Belt. On Saturday Troy had 14 turnovers, but just two in the second half.
The Jaguars lead the all-time series 31-14, but the Trojans have won the last three in Trojan Arena.
