TROY, Ala. – After defeating Toledo in the first game of the MAC-SBC Challenge to open its season in Trojan Arena, the Troy men's basketball team will travel to Oxford, Ohio, to take on Miami (Ohio) for the second game of the challenge on Feb. 8.
Troy (10-6, 3-2 SBC) is off to a strong start in Sun Belt play and is currently tied for second in the league. Miami (11-4, 3-0 MAC) is in the midst of a five-game winning streak. The Trojans sit at 131 in the NET Rankings, while the RedHawks are 140.
In the first game of the challenge this season, Troy defeated Toledo 84-74. The Trojans had four players score in double-figures and shot 52.2 percent from the field. Miami defeated App State 77-63 in Boone to open its season.
The Trojans have been getting exceptional play this year from senior guard Tayton Conerway, who is averaging a team-high 12.2 points per game. He had a career-high 32 points in Saturday's game against Arkansas State. He is averaging 19.2 points in Troy's five conference games.
The RedHawks were selected sixth in the MAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
This will be the third meeting between the two programs and the first since 2011, when Troy won 73-60 at home.
The MAC-SBC Challenge was formed at the recommendation of the Sun Belt's strategic planning committees for men's and women's basketball. Scheduling assistance is provided by Ordinal Sports Group. In addition to relevant NET data, geography and frequency of past contests is considered in determining the matchups.
