TROY, Ala. – Troy women's basketball gears up for another historic run with the unveiling of its complete 2024-25 schedule, which features three 2023-24 NCAA Tournament teams, LSU, Alabama and Marshall, and two in-season tournaments: Great Alaska Shootout and Cherokee Tournament.
"Once again, we have a challenging nonconference schedule to prepare us for Sun Belt play," head coach Chanda Rigby said. "We will be road warriors throughout November, and then we will all look forward to returning to our fans in Trojan Arena in December."
After two exhibition games against Pensacola State and at Mississippi State, the Trojans open the season with eight straight road games, beginning with their already-announced MAC-SBC Challenge at Buffalo on Nov. 4. They follow it with a journey to the other side of the nation on Nov. 7 at Montana State for the program's second-ever meeting – first was an 82-78 overtime victory in Edinburg, Texas (Dec. 28, 2008).
Troy returns to its home state but remains on the road against one of its three NCAA Tournament teams, Alabama – advanced to the second round with a win over Florida State. On Sunday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m., the Trojans look to avenge their WNIT loss from 2022 to the Crimson Tide before heading to battle UT-Chattanooga on Nov. 14.
On Nov. 18, the Trojans travel into Baton Rouge, La. to take on the 2023 NCAA National Champions, LSU, who won its way into the Elite 8 in 2024 with wins over Rice, Middle Tennessee and UCLA – lost to the 2024 NCAA runners-up Iowa.
The first in-season tournament follows up the Tigers as Troy treks up to Alaska for the Great Alaska Shootout. Troy's first opponent is Alaska-Anchorage on Nov. 22 in Alaska Airlines Center. The result of the Troy/Alaska-Anchorage and Vermont/North Dakota first-round games will determine who plays for the championship or bronze on Nov. 23.
Mississippi Valley stands on Dec. 1 in Itta Bena for Troy's final road game to open the season. Trojan Arena awaits on Dec. 4 for the home opener against Oakwood, followed by a rematch with Memphis on Dec. 14.
Dec. 18 and 19 mark the conclusion of the nonconference schedule as the Trojans again hit the road for the 2024 Cherokee Tournament, consisting of Liberty, Arkansas and Toledo. Game one sees the Trojans face Toledo at 8 p.m. on Dec. 18, and the result determines whether they will battle for the championship or third place.
Sun Belt play opens at the conclusion of 2024 with a road matchup at James Madison before Troy returns home to open 2025 against Coastal Carolina (Jan. 2) and defending Sun Belt Conference Regular Season & Tournament Champions Marshall (Jan. 4).
Two road dates against App State and Georgia State on Jan. 9 and Jan. 11, respectively, sit between a massive week at Trojan Arena. First, the Trojans host in-state rival South Alabama on Jan. 16 before looking to avenge their early exit from the SBC Tournament with Louisiana (Jan. 18).
A four-game road trip follows against Texas State (Jan. 23), Louisiana (Jan. 25), Arkansas State (Jan. 30) and Southern Miss (Feb. 1), followed by a four-game homestand against Old Dominion (Feb. 5), the second MAC-SBC Challenge opponent (TBD) on Feb. 8, ULM (Feb. 13) and Southern Miss (Feb. 15).
The final road trip sees the Trojans travel to Fant-Ewing Coliseum (Feb. 20) to face fellow 2024 WNIT Tournament team ULM – Troy won all four matchups in 2023-24, including the WNIT Great 8 matchup, 89-75. Then, the final road game sees the second round of the in-state rivalry with South Alabama on Feb. 22.
2024-25 concludes with a pair of home games against Texas State and Arkansas State on Feb. 26 and Feb. 28, respectively. Then, the 31-game regular season culminates into a six-day battle amongst the 14 SBC teams from March 4-10 for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
"We ended our season playing in a nearly sold-out Trojan Arena (Fab 4 of WNIT)," Rigby said. "That environment was fun for everyone involved. We hope to pick up where we left off and begin our home games playing in front of great Trojan crowds. Please mark your calendars and come build Trojan pride at our Women's Basketball games in Trojan Arena this season."
